This course is designed for the family pet dog. It will give you all the basic skills you need around the home with your dog and give you a great foundation to go on and do more training at a higher level if you wish.
- 1 x 1 hour meet and greet session, no dogs
- 5 x 1 hour group lessons at Learners on Lead training grounds
Skills Taught:
- Lead handling
- Parking your dog – settle and be calm on lead
- Transporting your dog on lead – walking safely on lead
- Reinforcement – what it is and how to use it
- It’s your Choice; this is teaching your dog impulse control and how to make better and calmer choices.
- Food in the hand – no grabbing food out of human hands
- Food bowl – not jumping up at the food bowl
- People – no jumping up on people
- Doors and gates – no barging through doors and gates
- Sit
- Wait for a few moments
- Come
- Give – to be able to take something out of your dog’s mouth
- The beginnings of walking on a loose lead
What you will learn:
- Reward based training – why its desirable and how to do it
- A leadership program – how to manage your relationship with your dog
- Preventing and solving simple behavioural problems (jumping up, mouthing, digging, chewing, barking)
- Enriching your dog’s environment
- Appropriate games to play with your dog
- Managing your dog around other dogs
- Dog body language and how they view the world
Classes are held at “Learners on Lead Pet Dog Training Facility' 35R Ten Mile Lane, Dubbo.
