Karen Johnston
My love of animals started from an early age. I was constantly bringing animals home and pleading with my parents to be allowed to keep them. I grew up with an interest in horses, and always had a dog by my side. I am passionate about helping owners gain the knowledge and skills to better understand and train their canine companions.
In 2005/2006 I studied Cert IV in Companion Animal Services gaining qualifications as a Delta Accredited Canine Good Citizen Instructor. I am constantly updating and expanding my knowledge and skills by regular attendance at dog training conferences and workshops throughout Australia.
In 2016 the amazing Animal Trainer Peta Clarke took me under her wing, teaching and inspiring me in many ways but mainly in the amazing world of Canine Nose Work.

- Bazil is a small mixed breed terrier, and what a surprise package this little dog is! I was sceptical at first; having never had a little dog before, however to cut a long story short Bazil has turned out to be an absolute treasure. He is smart, fun and athletic and I am having the time of my life training, playing and loving this little guy. Bazil is competing in Agility, Obedience and Nose Work.
- Abbey joined our family in 2012. Abbey is a “Grand Bassett Griffon Vendeen” and is all hound. Abbey is independent and lives to smell and follow scents with that big nose of hers. Abbey also competes in Agility, Obedience, Nose Work and is a Nursing Home Therapy Dog.
- Scooter is a Golden Retriever cross Kelpie, Scooter was born in September 2015 and is already earning his keep in classes by assisting unconfident dogs. Scooter competes in Agility and Obedience and is also a Nursing Home Therapy Dog.
- Milo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and come into our home as a two year old in 2017. Milo is a little snuggle bug and is a Nursing Home Therapy Dog.
- Dogs of the past - There have been many dogs in my life over the years. Growing up there was an assortment of house pet dogs and the working dogs as my brother was a cattleman and drover. As I became old enough to have my own dog Dad got me a little blue cattle dog and as the years progressed I followed my dream of owner a German Shepherd. I have owned and loved 4 German Shepherds over the years and they will always have a soft spot in my heart but it was time to experience some other breeds when I lost my last girl "Shadow" in 2009. Zac was a special boy, he went to the Rainbow Bridge when he was 14 year old, Zac was a Retriever Cross. Zac came to me as a very unconfident dog at 2 ½ years of age in 2004. He taught me the benefits of being calm, consistent and patient with my training. Through positive reinforcement training Zac gained confidence and has, over the years, become a great demonstration dog and assistant in class.
